Axle  
 

The Axle Cluster (host name: axle) is A*CRC's fat-node compute cluster. It comprises 32 units of 8-socket quad-core Opteron nodes running Centos 5.6 with Platform LSF as its Job Scheduler. The cluster is equipped with a quad-data rate (QDR) Infiniband network as its intra-cluster connection.

While Axle is designed primarily for MPI-type of applications, its unique fat-node architecture also allows it to run small to mid-sized multi-threaded parallel applications with modest memory requirements.

In late 2011, 10 units of SuperMicro servers with GPU cards (NVidia Tesla C2070) were added to Axle.
