About Maxwell
The Sun Fire V880 (host name: maxwell) consists of 8 SPARC III+ processors and 16GB of shared memory. It is named after James Clerk Maxwell, who did revolutionary work on electricity, magnetism and the kinetic theory of gases. Sun Solaris 9 is the operating environment for Maxwell.
While Maxwell is primarily intended to support commercial applications, its architecture is also suitable for OpenMP and threaded applications. The Sun ONE Studio compliers provide high levels of optimization.
System Specification
Each CPU is a 64-bit UltraSPARC III+ processor, running at 1.2 GHz, with a theoretical top speed of 4.8 GFlops/sec.
